Book Review: Ghost, Interrupted

June 9, 2011 by Julie 2 Comments

Last New Year’s Eve, I was in Charlotte for vacation.  I was leaving on New Year’s Day morning for a cruise, so it needed to be a mellow New Year’s Eve.  And let’s be honest…1.  I’m in my 30’s now.  2.  New Year’s Eve is overrated.

Where was I going with this?  Oh, New Year’s Eve!  I found myself at a Borders near Southpark that was going out of business in just a few days.  Most of the books were only 50 cents – $1!!  I.was.in.heaven.  Now a lot of the books had been picked over, but for only 50 cents I’ll take a risk.  Or about 20 risks…..  I bought so many books that I had to ask Sarah to mail my purchases to me.

Ghost, Interrupted by Sonia Singh was one of my bargain buys.

Ghost, Interrupted follows along with three people who work for a paranormal business.  Scott is the founder of the business.  He handles the technology side with cameras and energy reading devices.  Anjali is a psychic who can communicate with the ghosts.  Coulter is a telekinetic who can move objects and people with his mind.

What I liked about the book:  It was a fast read.  I was able to finish it in less than a week.  And that’s exactly what I’m looking for in a summer read.  It was entertaining and lighthearted.  I was a bit worried it might be scary, but the “scary” parts are limited and didn’t keep me up at night.

What I didn’t like:  The writing seemed a bit juvenile.  I started to wonder if it was a young adult book.  Also, the cliches were horrid and dated.

Some examples:  “Anjali knew this as certainly as she knew the words to every Depeche Mode song every written.”  Huh?  Is Depeche Mode relevant for a book written in 2007?

“Scott groaned. ‘Honestly, Eddie, you take more commercial breaks than must-see TV.  Get on with it!'”  Wasn’t must-see TV over in ’98-ish??

Overall, this book was definitely worth 50 cents though!  I do think the plot would make a good TV show on the SciFi channel.  Perhaps Sonia Singh should option her book to the network.  It will be a must-see.

Ghost, Interrupted:  2.5 out of 5 stars
