I’m already missing warm evenings outside with a beer.
This time of year is stressful. Not only do you have Thanksgiving, but the pressure is already on for Christmas. Have you decorated your house yet? Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? Oh well, your type A personality neighbor has been done for months.
On top of that, this time of year is ripe with office potlucks and holiday parties.
Do you really want to battle pie crust for co-workers? (No offense, co-workers.) And besides, your work potluck will likely already have a pumpkin & pie pie brought to the event.
Mix it up and bring a super easy & totally yummy dessert. You’ll thank me and your co-workers will thank you.
Recipe can be found HERE.
What are you doing tomorrow night?
I’ll be at Bloggy School. As an on and off (more frequently off…) blogger, I’m looking for some inspiration & information to keep me on the blogging train after November.
I’m looking forward to learning a bit more about editorial calendars.
If you’re in the Austin area, come learn with me!
I missed posting on Friday & Saturday. There goes a perfect NaBloPoMo, oh well! On Friday, I had a work event followed by a friend’s birthday party. Yesterday, I woke up feeling so tired. I sadly thought…wow, I’m SO OLD if one night out makes me useless the next day.
Around 4 pm, I realized that I was really achy and my throat was scratchy. OHHHH, I have a cold!! I’ve never been so excited to have a cold, ha. I’d rather be knocked down by a cold versus just middle age.
This time of year, I gravitate toward oatmeal for breakfast. It’s filling, so if you have a busy day and know that lunch will be far off, the oatmeal sticks to your ribs to keep you going. It’s so versatile. The add-in’s and combos are endless. It’s comforting, which was good for me while nursing my cold.
Pictured above are just some of my favorite oatmeal add-ins. (Not ALL of them together, of course.) I always add in some fruit for sweetness and some nuts for crunch.
And it’s no secret that I love ALL things pumpkin, so in the fall, I always stir in a dollop of pumpkin into my oatmeal.
So what oatmeal variation did I have this morning? Steel cut oatmeal, flaxseed, pumpkin, peanut butter…topped with banana slices & chopped almonds & some maple syrup drizzled on top.
What’s your favorite oatmeal combo?
I last posted a 2014 book tally back in June. At that time, I’d sadly only read 5 books. After that post, I got a library card which helped me get back on the reading train. I’m pleased with my progress.
1. This is Where I Leave You, by Jonathan Tropper
**Since posting about the book this summer, I have seen the movie too. I actually liked the movie better than the book!
2. Tender at the Bone, by Ruth Reichl
3. One More Thing, by BJ Novak
4. Where We Belong, by Emily Giffin
5. Ali in Wonderland, by Ali Wentworth
6. All the Summer Girls, Meg Donohue
7. Sharp Objects, Gillian Flynn
**it’s no Gone Girl, but I did like this book from Flynn as well. I also read that this book is going to possibly be made into a TV seriesd. (Side note: The Gone Girl movie is EXCELLENT, just as the book is.)
8. The Body Book, Cameron Diaz
**I lost 7 lbs since reading this book. I’ve since stalled out on my progress, but I got so much out of this book. I highlighted many passages that I’ve reread a lot.
9. Where’d You Go, Bernadette, Maria Semple
11. The Vacationers, Emma Straub
12. Cartwheel, Jennifer Dubois
13. Sisterland, Curtis Sittenfeld
14. Life After Life, Kate Atkinson
15. Life Drawing, Robin Black
16. The Goldfinch, Donna Tartt
18. Not That Kind of Girl, Lena Dunham
**Sadly, it was just okay to me. I was disappointed.
I am currently working on #19, Anthony Bourdain’s Medium Raw.
Of the ones read so far, I recommend #2, 8, 11, 13, 15, 16, and 17.
What are you currently reading?
Pizza from St. Philip’s
Fennel Sausage, Piquillo Peppers, Shaved Red Onion, House Blend Mozzarella, Red Sauce
As I was thinking about what to blog about today, I went to check the mail. Exciting post so far, eh? I received an Ebates rebate check in the mail. So, I thought I’d share a little secret with you.
If you are an avid online shopper like I am, you NEED to use Ebates. If you are planning on online shopping for the holidays, you NEED to use Ebates. It’s free money people!
How does it work?
Basically, go to Ebates.com versus going directly to the store you are wanting to online shop at. Then type in the name of your desired store on Ebates and it will tell you if that store has a cash back offer from Ebates.
For example, I recently saw that Ebates was offering 4% cash back on Kate Spade purchases. Ebates had also alerted me that Kate Spade was having one of their surprise sales. So not only did I get 75% off my purse, but also the 4% cash back from Ebates.
So of course, it only made sense to get earrings too. 😉
I highly recommend this site to everyone! I can’t say enough good things about it. I’ve received over $60 back using Ebates so far. It’s so easy to use and if it something that you’re going to buy already, then use Ebates. The hardest thing to do in the beginning is to just remember to go to their site first. A couple of times, I have went on Keurig.com to buy coffee as I do regularly…wasted cash back opporunities when I failed to go to Ebates first!
You bet your bottom dollar that I’ll be going to Ebates on Cyber Monday!!
Note: if you do try Ebates, I am eligible for a referral credit if you’d be so kind as to use this link.
When I was in 7th grade, I received the best Christmas present from my parents EVER. It was a massive make-up gift set from Elizabeth Arden. The case was a red door (a la their perfume) and filled with multiple eyeshadow palettes, blushes, and lipsticks. I was in heaven. I remember taking it to school and breaking it out in computer class to show to me friends.
In retrospect, I realize that this best present ever was probably a “free with purchase” that my Dad got when he bought my Mom her Red Door perfume. But who cares–it was still awesome!! And I’ve been a sucker for make-up sets around the holidays ever since.
Here are a few that I’ve got my eye on.
1. Benefit’s Sweet Tintations
This set includes 2 lipbalms and 2 cheek stains. I’d get it for the cheek stains. I’ve found cheek stains to be better for me in the winter when my skin in drier.
2. Philosophy’s Pink Marshmallow Buttercream Trio
Some sort of Philosophy gift set always makes to a friend, family member, or to myself around the holidays. This year I have my eye on the Pink Marshmallow Buttercream. Such a fun name! I’d have to pop into a store to smell it in person before committing though.
3. Tarte’s Chic to Cheek Deluxe Amazionian Clay Blush Set
I realize that I just commented about cheek stains being better than blushes in the winter, but I’m really into this gift set. Tarte’s blushes last all day and have great pigment. I wear their Frisky shade regularly. All the shades in this set would be new to me: amour (candy pink), classic (soft apricot pink), prim (plum nude), and daydream (rosy pink).
4. Too Faced’s Under the Mistletoe
I’ve recently started gravitating toward lipsticks/creams and away from glosses. These neutral shades look like they’d work with my pale skin. I did read online that the pink bag flakes glitter everywhere so don’t factor that into your purchase if you’re thinking of getting this item.
Lip cream colors are: Naked Dolly, Marshmallow Bunny, and Spice Spice Baby
5. bareMinerals’ Vison of Light
A great value for everything you get in this kit! Any bareMinerals lover would enjoy this gift.
Stroke of Light Highlighter (luminous peach)
Illuminating Mineral Veil Finishing Powder
Celestial Eyecolor (spun sugar)
After Dusk Eyecolor (shimmering clove)
Lasting Line Long-Wearing Eye Liner in Eternal Bronze
Daybreak Blush (terracotta pink)
Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss in Stargazer (gilded mauve) (0.15 fl. oz.)
Full Tapered Shadow & Blush Brush
Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara in Intense Black
Now I just need some holiday parties to attend to have a reason to glam up!
Are we sure November isn’t over already? I kid, sort of. I do have a list of blog topics. They just aren’t terribly food related. Maybe I should change my blog name from Sugarfoot Eats to Sugarfoot Writes Aimlessly about Pop Culture. Doesn’t have right the same ring to it though.
1. Listening to recently…
True albeit embarrassing story, I stumbled upon Andrew Belle when one of his songs was played during an episode of Pretty Little Liars. Is it weird for a 35 year old to watch PLL? If so, I stopped watching last year when I was 34…so there.
I have Belle’s Blackbear & The Ladder albums and really like them both. If you like Matt Nathanson, Mat Kearney, Matt Wertz (you know the Matt’s)…then odds are you’ll like Belle.
2. Reading currently…
Oh wait, this book is food related….score. I haven’t decided on Medium Raw yet. I have a love/hate relationship with Anthony Bourdain. While I do love his sharp tongue, quick wit, and knowledge…he’s also kind of an asshole.
3. Watching on Netflix…
Season 4 of Portlandia was recently released on Netflix. Hooray!!
What are you listening to, reading, and/or watching??
